Today is the yearly awareness day for intersex people. The aim is to improve education, understanding, and highlight the human right issues the community face.
There are over forty different types of intersex variation and studies suggest that approximately 2% of the population are intersex. This is roughly equivalent to the number of people with red hair.
Some intersex people are part of the transgender community, and our collective needs around decisions for our bodies and our lives intersect. With this in mind, we stand in solidarity with the intersex community.
